It's summer in Southern Indiana. Elisabeth's mother packs
her bags and joins a spiritual retreat in Michigan. Her father a
moody professor, might be having an affair with a yoga instructor.
As a Popular life guard. Elizabeth meets the boy of her dreams and
embarks on her first romance. Growing pains are more than she'd
bargained for, though , and pretty soon everything that can go wrong
does.
As her relationship with her father deteriorates. Elizabeth longs
for her mother. She seeks her out at the retreat only to discover
that it is a psychiatric institution where her mother is suffering
from severe depression. Her father all aloss as to what to do with
his wife, whose family's mental illness has spanned generations.
The roles reverse and he turns to Elizabeth for guidance. Left to
cope on her own at seventeen Elizabeth is faced with the thankless
task of holding her family together.
Sacred Hearts is more than a coming of age story;
it is the bittersweet journey of an intelligent and passionate girl's
self discovery.
